Comparison of Expression Profiles in Ovarian Epithelium In Vivo and Ovarian Cancer Identifies Novel Candidate Genes Involved in Disease Pathogenesis

Abstract: Molecular events leading to epithelial ovarian cancer are poorly understood but ovulatory hormones and a high number of life-time ovulations with concomitant proliferation, apoptosis, and inflammation, increases risk. We identified genes that are regulated during the estrous cycle in murine ovarian surface epithelium and analysed these profiles to identify genes dysregulated in human ovarian cancer, using publically available datasets. We identified 338 genes that are regulated in murine ovarian surface epithe… Show more

“…In Xenopus, CIRBP displays nucleocytoplasmic shuttling and has distinct roles in each cellular compartment (Aoki et al 2002). Nuclear CIRBP is associated with cell growth and differentiation (Lleonart 2010;Emmanuel et al 2011;Masuda et al 2012). In response to various environmental stressors, CIRBP moves from the nucleus to the cytoplasm where it associates with stress granules to regulate RNA metabolism (Yang and Carrier 2001;De Leeuw et al 2007).…”

“…1 Although 90% of patients with ovarian cancer initially respond to a frontline approach of cytoreductive surgery and platinum-based chemotherapy, most patients ultimately relapse. 2 Pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD) is approved for treatment of ovarian cancer after failure of platinum-based therapy and can be used as a platform for novel combination regimens.…”

“…We generated a list of OVC-specific genes in humans that were known to be differentially expressed from three sources: TCGA study [31], Polanski et al [29], and Emmanuel et al [32]. Five genes significantly upregulated in Table 1 are also upregulated in human OVC including B2M, CLDN, EPCAM, S100A6, and TPD52.…”
