“…However, the use of MP for the treatment of TSCI has been very effective. MP has been shown to inhibit early inflammatory processes and lipid peroxidation, reduce edema and cell apoptosis, maintain neuronal excitability, and improve microcirculation after TSCI (Rabchevsky et al, 2002;Baltin et al, 2021). The results on the use of MP in animal models have been promising; however, human clinical trials have produced mixed results.…”

“…Although systemic steroids are gaining increased popularity in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), the benefits of local steroid infiltration have been well known since as early as 1999 when Dammers et al used 40 mg methylprednisolone with 10 mg Lignocaine for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and achieved tremendous results [ 35 ]. Systemic steroid use reduces the postoperative risk of PONV and acute pain [ 36 ]; however, a significant rise in blood glucose is also a known side effect of steroid use [ 37 ], along with sepsis, pneumonia, GI bleed, wound infection, and acute corticosteroid myopathy [ 38 ]. A multimodal analgesic regimen is widely used to improve outcomes, and the use of systemic and local corticosteroids as adjuncts has been suggested by previous studies [ 37 ].…”

“…M. Baltin et al [ 6 ] studied changes in the range of motion of the hind limbs of rats induced by epidural stimulation in the acute phase of SCI and recovery of movements was assessed. A kinematic analysis of complete stepping cycles was performed for animals of each group.…”
