“…Two types of microbial screening assays can be distinguished: a tube test and (multi-) plate test systems (e.g. Delvotest Ò /DSM; Charm Cowside/Charm Sciences Inc.; Eclipse/ZeuInmunotech) (Pikkemaat, Rapallini, Oostra-van Dijk, & Elferink, 2009). Different immunological methods such as ELISA, RIA or biosensor methods are used to screen milk samples (Ferguson et al, 2002;Gaudin, Cadieu & Sanders, 2005).…”

“…Sensitive and rapid analytical methods have been developed to determine antibiotic residues in fish, such as microbiological assays (Kilinc, Meyer, & Hilge, 2007;Pikkemaat, 2009;Pikkemaat, Rapallini, Oostra-van Dijk, & Elferink, 2009), immunoassays (Huet et al, 2006;Kilinc & Cakli, 2008), liquid chromatography (Ueno, Sangrungruang, & Miyakawa, 1999;Wen, Wang, & Feng, 2006), capillary electrophoresis (Juan-García, Font, & Picó, 2006), gas chromatography (Ding, Shen, Zhang, Jiang, & Sun, 2005), and full scan mass spectrometer techniques for compounds identity confirmation (Stolker, Zuidema, & Nielen, 2007). To simplify the analysis, a new methodology that combines sorbent extraction and solid-matrix time-resolved luminescence was also developed (Chen, Smith, Qin, & Liu, 2006).…”

“…MIT are based on inhibition of the growth of test organisms sensitive to many antibiotics and sulphonamides. Among these tests, the STAR developed at the EU Community Reference Laboratory in Fougères (France) for the screening of antimicrobial residues in milk and muscle is one of the most widely used tests in residue screening (Gaudin et al 2004;Kožárová et al 2009;Pikkemaat et al 2009;Gaudin et al 2010 On the basis of the results obtained in our preliminary studies (Kožárová and Máté 2000;Kožárová et al 2002a;Kožárová 2006;Kožárová et al 2008) and because the STAR has been officially approved for screening food-producing animals and their products for residues of veterinary drugs in Slovakia (CH 12.19. 2006), the aim of our study was to detect the presence of maduramycin residues in the tissues of broiler chickens and pheasants after oral administration in medicated feed by the STAR.…”
