Comparison of Two Breastfeeding Positions on Maternal Comfort and Infant Feeding Behaviors through Video Teaching among Postnatal Mothers

Abstract: Introduction Breastfeeding is not a choice but it is a responsibility. While breastfeeding may not seem the right choice for every parent, it is the best choice for every baby. Antenatal education motivates the mothers who are undergoing Cesarean section to prepare themselves, so as to establish a wonderful efficient latch. The aim of this study was to conclude which breastfeeding position may be the best choice for the mother with Caesarean section. The objectives of the study were (1) to identify the materna… Show more

“…Smitha et al observed in their study that mean maternal comfort score in cradle breast feeding position on day 1, day 2, day 3 was 24.2, 28.88, 32.22 respectively. [7] Maria et al contradicted to the present study which revealed that there were no signi cant differences in the comfort scores between cradle hold and football breastfeeding. Both the position was equally effective for breastfeeding in terms of increased comfort of primiparous women.…”

“…Majority of the mothers belong to the age group of 21-25 years(48%), followed by 26-30 years (27.5%), more than 30 years (15%) and less than 20 years (9.5%). Smitha et al observed in their study that majority of the samples, 40% of the mother belongs to the age group of 26 to 30 years, followed by 28.6% of the mothers were between 21 and 35 years and 22.8% of mothers were greater than 30 years [7] In this study the maternal comfort score was assessed between the two groups and it was found that mothers of cross cradle group agreed to majority of maternal comfort scale than cradle group and mothers felt more in their babies using cross cradle breast feeding position. It is evident by data as mean maternal comfort score in cross cradle breast feeding position on day 1, day 2, day 3 is 38, 38.59, 38.82 respectively in comparison with cradle breast feeding position where mean maternal comfort score on day 1, day 2, day 3 was 34.07,34.74,34.99 respectively which is highly signi cant(p value < 0.001).…”

“…Nevertheless, this study was undertaken with a small sample size (13 women in each group), which may have influenced this difference in results. For instance, in an alternate study, the comfort of those following birth via cesarean section was found to be better in the breastfeeding side-lying position than the cradle position [ 36 ]. Yet, Palmer et al (2019) highlighted that having previous breastfeeding experience can affect satisfaction with breastfeeding in subsequent experiences [ 37 ].…”
