Comparison of two derivatization-based methods for solid-phase microextraction–gas chromatography–mass spectrometric determination of bisphenol A, bisphenol S and biphenol migrated from food cans

Abstract: An environmentally friendly sample pretreatment system based on solid-phase microextraction (SPME) for the sensitive determination of bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol S (BPS) and biphenol (BP) is described. Two derivatisation reactions to obtain volatile derivatives are compared. Derivatisation with acetic anhydride (AA) was performed in situ in a 5-mM Na(2)CO(3)/NaHCO(3) buffer solution and analytes were extracted by direct immersion (DI) using a PA fibre (85 microm) at 90 degrees C for 40 min with stirring at 1,… Show more

“…In the USA, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, and China (Liao et al 2012c), BPS has been detected in several different "BPA free" paper products, including receipts and paper money (Liao et al 2012a). The presence of BPS has been determined in tinned foodstuffs (Vinas et al 2010). The occurrence of BPS has also been determined in indoor dust (Liao et al 2012b), in fluvial water (Ike et al 2006), surface water, and waste waters (Song et al 2014) (Table 2).…”

“…Félix et al [21] used solidphase microextraction in headspace mode (HS-SPME) and GC-MS to identify the compounds from irradiated and nonirradiated multilayer polyamide 6 films. Other method based on derivatization followed by SPME-GC-MS for the determination of bisphenol A, bisphenol S, and biphenol migrated from food cans was also described [22]. Also, HS-SPME and GC with flame photometric detection has been reported for determination of organotin stabilizers in poly(vinyl chloride) products [23].…”

“…[47][48][49] Receipts, paper products, and many canned food and soft drinks were found to have BPS and BPF. [50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57] In USA, BPF and BPS were detected in most of the human urine samples, albeit less frequent and lower concentrations than BPA in the same sample. 58,59 Low concentration of BPS was detected in some serum samples of pregnant women and the cord blood of the sibling, 60 suggesting BPS could also cross the placenta.…”
