Compatible stability of methylprednisolone sodium succinate and tropisetron in 0.9% sodium chloride injection

Abstract: background A combination of methylprednisolone sodium succinate and tropisetron hydrochloride is commonly used to treat the nausea and vomiting associated with antineoplastic therapy. The objective of this study was to investigate the stability of tropisetron hydrochloride and methylprednisolone sodium succinate in 0.9% sodium chloride injection for up to 48 hours. Methods Commercial solutions of methylprednisolone sodium succinate and tropisetron hydrochloride were obtained and further diluted with 0.9% sodiu… Show more

“…In recent years, people's lives have become increasingly fast-paced, and fatigue and environmental, dietary, and psychological factors have increased the incidence of sudden deafness, causing a greater impact on patients' quality of life and work efficiency [3]. Despite prompt treatment, some patients still suffer from permanent hearing loss and tinnitus, which is a serious otologic disease that endangers human health [4]. It is therefore the responsibility of medical professionals to find effective treatments for sudden deafness with few safe side effects [5].…”

“…For the formulation of these drugs, several formulation strategies have been developed [ 32 , 33 ]. Among these, the solution is the simplest and its cost is the lowest [ 34 , 35 ]. However, a large number of surfactants and/or organic solvents have to be added to improve its solubility.…”

“…[19] Piles of evidence show that GH (a 5-HT 3 receptor antagonist) in combination with MSS demonstrated better control of delayed CINV in patients receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy, but no published information was available on the compatibility and stability of MSS with GH in infusion samples. [20] Thus, the present study aims to shed some light on this issue. Previously, the physical compatibility and/or chemical stability tests of MSS single or prepared in combination with other agents such as doxofylline, cytarabine, methotrexate sodium, palonosetron hydrochloride, and dacarbazine in infusion admixtures have been widely studied and found it was a very stable drug.…”
