Compensation and the Human Security–Insecurity Matrix in Forced Displacement. Experiences from the Tokwe Mukosi Displacement in Zimbabwe.

Abstract: Compensation for internally displaced persons (IDPs) is one of the most important ways in which IDPs can be cushioned against multiple forms of insecurity. If conducted timely and impartially, it can increase resilience in the wake of the sudden and often unplanned livelihood-related and social changes that are associated with internal displacement and concomitant vulnerabilities for the displacees. “…Chingwizi serves as the resettlement site for over 3,000 families displaced by the 2014 floods in the Tokwe-Mukorsi basin (Chivi district), about 150 km away. The events surrounding the 2014 Tokwe-Mukorsi flood phenomenon, and the subsequent displacement of families residing in the dam basin have been fairly well-documented (Mavhura, 2020;Mucherera and Spiegel, 2022;Nhodo et al, 2020).
