Compensation Parameters Optimization of Wireless Power Transfer for Electric Vehicles

Abstract: For wireless charging of electric vehicles (EVs), increasing the output power level is particularly important. In this paper, the purpose of improving the output power while maintaining optimal transmission efficiency is achieved by optimizing the parameters of the compensation topology under the premise that the coupled coils of the system does not need to be redesigned. The series-series (SS) and hybrid-series-parallel (LCC, composed by an inductor and two capacitors) compensation topology are studied. The i… Show more

“…One major research area with high interest has been the electric vehicle (EV) charging system. 1 The EV with a wired charging system gives high efficiency; however, heavy batteries, dust accumulation, long charging time, and inconvenience are the major drawbacks. 2 Furthermore, especially in the wet environment, there is a chance of electrocution with the plugs, also safety issues because of long wire.…”

“…It has been employed in many applications. For example, in the field of electric vehicles, the inductive power transfer (IPT) method has a greater advantage for the electric vehicle (EV) battery charger due to its convenience and safety as compared to the plugged-in charger [2]. In the area of implantable medical devices, compared to batteries, IPT can theoretically achieve an unlimited lifetime through wireless power transfer, without the need for surgery to replace the battery, greatly reducing the patient's pain [3].…”

“…Recently, research on wireless power transfer (WPT) has been focused on wireless charging of large mobile devices such as electric vehicles, automatic guided vehicles, and robots beyond wireless small devices such as mobile phones, smart watches and wearable devices [1][2][3]. Since it requires thousands of times more power than conventional small devices, high-power WPT has additional requirements for safety during charging as well as the requirements for charging efficiency [4,5].…”
