Competing local and global interactions in social dynamics: How important is the friendship network?

Abstract: Motivated by the empirical research on product ratings, we study a class of opinion formation models with competing global and local interactions. Models are investigated by means of the pair approximation and Monte Carlo simulations on Watts-Strogatz networks. We show that the agreement is the most difficult to achieve within the model with local conformity and global anticonformity.
