Competition between the shake-off and knockout mechanisms in the double and triple photoionization of the halothane molecule (C2HBrClF3)

Abstract: The ratios of single, double, and triple ionizations to the total photoionization of the halothane (C2HBrClF3) molecule have been investigated by a single-photon ionization in the energy range from 21.21 eV to 320 eV. In the valence region, the multiple ionization results can be described by a sum of contributions generated from the shake-off and the two-step one models. At low photon energies (from the threshold of triple ionization up to 100 eV), the triple photoionization dynamics of halothane can be reason… Show more

“…From the analysis of PEPICO and PE2PICO spectra, that is, from the lack of dications in the PEPICO spectra, one can conclude that the doubly charged parent SUVA molecule dissociates with symmetric charge separation via the decay: resemblance behavior with other atomic and molecular systems. 1,20 It rises up to about 35 eV and then falls to its valence asymptotic value of 9%. After reaching the C 1 s edge, the ratio increases again to a little above 10%.…”

“…If v orb is the speed of the target electron, the range of validity of Equation 7 should be 0 ≤ v pe ffi v orb . It is well known that the electron impact ionization cross sections decrease as ln (E)/E, where E is the electron energy for dipole allowed transitions, and as it has been considered in previous works, 20,22 here we adopt Lotz's cross section 26 to evaluate the (e,2e)-like, KO process in the double photoionization of the SUVA 134a molecule:…”
