Complete three photon Hong-Ou-Mandel interference at a three port device

Abstract: Abstract:We report the possibility of completely destructive interference of three indistinguishable photons on a three port device providing a generalisation of the well known Hong-Ou-Mandel interference of two indistinguishable photons on a two port device. Our analysis is based on the underlying mathematical framework of SU(3) transformations rather than SU(2) transformations. We show the completely destructive three photon interference for a large range of parameters of the three port device and point out … Show more

“…The degree of bunching depends on how similar the two photons are in all degrees of freedom, for example, time, frequency, polarization, and spatial mode. Extending the study of interference to many particles is of interest from a fundamental as well as from a technological viewpoint [2][3][4][5][6][7]. The scattering of multiple photons in linear networks is related to solving problems in quantum information processing, metrology, and quantum state engineering [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16].…”

“…We confirm that this is indeed an anti-bunched state, with the fidelity of 95.0%. Furthermore, this measurement permits us to get information about the spectral overlap of the pair of photons, since the observed correlations exhibit a generalized form of Hong-Ou-Mandel interference [27][28][29], see Sec. 1 of the supplementary material for details.…”

“…This value is actually limited by the quality of the photon source (which Hong-Ou-Mandel visibility is limited at 93%), whereas we estimate the statistical reconstruction fidelity at the level of 99.71% (see Methods, Algorithmic reconstruction). Furthermore, this measurement permits us to get information about the spectral overlap of the pair of photons, since the observed correlations exhibit a generalized form of Hong-OuMandel interference, [30][31][32] see Sec. III of the Supplementary Material for details.…”
