Completing the eclectic flavor scheme of the ℤ2 orbifold

Abstract: We present a detailed analysis of the eclectic flavor structure of the two-dimensional ℤ2 orbifold with its two unconstrained moduli T and U as well as SL(2, ℤ)T× SL(2, ℤ)U modular symmetry. This provides a thorough understanding of mirror symmetry as well as the R-symmetries that appear as a consequence of the automorphy factors of modular transformations. It leads to a complete picture of local flavor unification in the (T, U) modulus landscape. In view of applications towards the flavor structure of particl… Show more

“…It would be interesting to compare our results to the outcome of similar TD constructions, such as the orbifold models of type B-D classified in ref. [7], orbifold constructions endowed with a T 2 /Z 2 sector [48,49], or other TD scenarios that can admit three fermion generations and metaplectic flavor symmetries [42], and also exhibit eclectic features [40]. Moreover, quasi-eclectic models [91] offer another interesting possibility to explore in order to further connect the BU and TD approaches.…”

“…Among the symmetries of these string models, one identifies their discrete flavor symmetries (which technically correspond to the outer automorphisms of the Narain space group associated with the orbifold). The origin and properties of these flavor symmetries have been explored in a series of papers [147][148][149][150][151]. The resulting symmetries lead to the so-called "eclectic" picture, which unifies the traditional flavor symmetries of Section 4 with the modular groups as in Section 5.3.…”

“…Interestingly, both R and CP (and CP-like) symmetries are linked to modular transformations, arising from SL(2, Z) or even Sp(2g, Z) [151]. (The latter has also been explored in the bottom-up approach [110].)…”

“…The Double Covering groups T [23,24] and S 4 [25,26] were also realized in the modular symmetry. Furthermore, phenomenological studies have been developed in many works while theoretical investigations have been also proceeded [78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90][91][92][93][94][95][96][97].…”
