Complex Micromodel Analysis of Wearing Contact Interfaces

Abstract: The behavior of tribological systems with hybrid lubrication using solid lubricants on graphite basis and/or liquid lubricant can be optimized. This can be achieved by a detailed knowledge of the transfer mechanisms induced by the tribological stress and consequential material and surface design adaptations. Our first approach is a finite element model containing a representative model of the real asperity geometry and distribution. With this model we can estimate the temperature and pressure distribution in t… Show more

“…In 1997, the enamel wear rate of 18 young adults over two consecutive years was measured independently by volume loss and mean depth loss by Pintado et al [92]. A steady wear rate of 0.04 mm 3 per year by volume and 10 μm per year by depth, averaged over all teeth, was experienced. The greater wear was observed for the canines and for the bruxers, while no significant difference in tooth wear on the basis of gender was found.…”

“…Subsequently, the First Vienna Symposium on Biomechanical Engineering was organized during the 2nd World Congress on Tribology in 2001. The Symposium on Human-related Tribology during the 4th World Congress on Tribology in 2009 and the 6th International Biotribology Forum in 2011 were also held [3][4][5][6]. However, the meeting with the largest scale was the 2011 International Conference on Biotribology held at Imperial College, London [7].…”

“…The vastness of the subjects studied by tribology can be seen in particular by looking at the proceedings of the World Tribology Congresses that have been held every four years since 1997, that often are only books of abstracts due to the number of works included in them [14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. Tribological studies range from theoretical to experimental ones, as well as from basic to applied researches, covering aspects from the nano world up to the macroscopic one.…”
