Complexes of 3dn Metal Ions with Thiosemicarbazones: Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activity

Abstract: Abstract:The chelating behavior of the thiosemicarbazone derivatives of 2-hydroxy-8-Rtricyclo [7.3.1.0. 2,7 ]tridecane-13-one (where R = H, CH 3 , C 6 H 5 ) towards Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) has been investigated by elemental analysis, molar conductivity measurements, UV-VIS, IR, ESR spectroscopy and thermal studies. It was deduced from the experiments performed that the ligands coordinate to metal ions in different ways -neutral bidentate or mononegative bidentate -depending on the nature of R. Also, if met… Show more

“…Due to their simplicity in preparation, diverse properties, medicinal, biochemical and industrial applications, the keen interest in the study of these compounds arose in the recent years. A number of metal coordination complexes of Schiff bases have been suggested as antibacterial, antifungal, cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory and cytostatic agents [4] [5] [6] [7]. In order to widen the scope of investigations on the coordination behavior of various donor …”

“…The electronic spectra of complexes showed low energy bands at 10437-16420 cm -1 and a strong high energy band at 23310-28328 cm-1. The low energy band in the position may be assigned to the transitions dx 2 -y 2 →dyz; dz 2 ; dxy [12][13] . The strong high energy band is assigned to metal→ligand charge transfer.…”
