Composite Hemangioendothelioma

Abstract

Originally established as primarily the combination of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma and retiform hemangioendothelioma (Nayler et al. 2000), the definition of composite hemangioendothelioma has expanded to include histologic components of benign, intermediate, and malignant vascular proliferations. In addition to the aforementioned features, these may include hemangioma-like areas (especially spindle cell hemangioma), papillary intralymphatic angioendothelioma-like areas, and areas that are "angiosarcoma-like" (but not unequivocal angiosarcoma). At least two, distinct components must be present for the diagnosis.
