Composite right/left‐handed based compact and high gain leaky‐wave antenna using complementary spiral resonator on HMSIW for Ku band applications

Abstract: Abstract:In this communication, a novel compact high gain composite right/left-handed (CRLH) based leaky-wave antenna (LWA) is presented at Ku band. Half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) incorporating with suitably oriented Complementary Quad Spiral Resonator (CQSR) is used to achieve a CRLH LWA. The uni cell is realized by a CQSR in such a way that orientation of spirals exhibit higher leakage loss having minimum cross coupling between them. The antenna is capable to scan backward to forward along … Show more

“…There are various metamaterial designs available in the literature which result in metamaterial behaviours like diamondshaped [10], cross-shaped [11], concentric ring resonators [12], EM resonators [13], n-point star resonators [14], bed nails [15], fishnet [16], modified S-shaped SRR [17], complementary quad spiral resonator [18] and many more for different types of metamaterial applications. However, most of the reported metamaterials are found either having the SNG or narrow band DNG responses.…”

“…In References , transverse slot and H‐shaped slots are etched from the top of the SIW‐based structure in order to obtain single band forward beam scanning operation with the linear or circular polarization (CP). Very recently, in Reference , a combination of spiral slots has been etched from half mode substrate‐integrated waveguide (HMSIW)‐based structure to produce continuous beam scanning linearly polarized (LP) LWA. In Reference , a conventional composite right/left‐handed (CRLH) SIW‐based LWA is proposed for polarization‐flexible operation where a separate feeding network is used to produce the required phase shift between the orthogonally polarized field components generated from its unit cell.…”

“…The combination of transverse and longitudinal slots as the radiating elements is used for OSB suppression in HMSIW LWA [22]. In [23], a compact CRLH based HMSIW LWA with spiral slots for gain enhancement and radiation efficiency improvement is presented. The main idea is similar to the previously developed HMSIW P-LWA but with the use of folded ground plane, the gain is enhanced by ~2 dBi with OSB suppression.…”
