Composition and proportion of elements on the surface of crustose lichens from the experimental field of the former Semipalatinsk test site and from the town of Kurchatov (Republic of Kazakhstan)

Abstract: The composition of elements and proportion of atomic masses (%) on the surface of apothecia discs of crustose lichens Candelariella vitellina, Caloplaca pyracea, and C. vitellinula, which were collected in the experimental field of the former Semipalatinsk test site and in the town of Kurchatov (Republic of Kaza khstan), were measured. The measurements were taken with instruments without destroying the samples. There were 22 elements found on the surfaces of apothecia discs. The highest enrichment factor was d… Show more

“…In Kazakhstan, a number of studies were conducted addressing the composition and ratio of elements on the surface of lichens from the experimental field of the former Semipalatinsk Polygon and from the city of Kurchatov (Biazrov and Pelgunova 2015). The present study was conducted as part of an integrated approach combining chemical and biological parameters to assess the impact of road traffic on air quality in Kazakhstan.…”
