Composition and Structure of Single Cell Oil Produced by Schizochytrium limacinum SR31

Abstract: Schizochytrium limacinum sp. was commercially utilized to produce single cell oil (SCO), but its detailed lipid profile remains unknown. In order to analyze the composition and structure of SCO produced by Schizochytrium limacinum SR31, the SCO extracted at stationary growth phase was separated into neutral lipids (NL), polar lipids and glycolipids by using silica gel column chromatography. The result of lipid classes in NL revealed that triacylglycerol (TAG) was the primary glyceride (93.81 %). Fatty acid (FA… Show more

“…The fragments with m/z 575.63 ([DG 16:0_18:2] + ), m/z 577.63 ([DG 16:0_18:1] + ), m/z 601.65 ([DG 18:1_18:2] + ) were formed by a loss of C 18:1 , C 18:2 , and C 16:0 along with ammonia, respectively. It was suggested that the signal intensity of [DAG] + was dependent on the length of acyl chains (Zhang et al, 2016). TG 18:2_18:1_16:0 represents the structure of linoleyl‐oleoyl‐palmitoyl‐glycerol.…”

“…The potential of ELSD in the analysis of different lipid classes has been established. [ 25 ] Even though Refractive index detectors (RID) are compatible with HPLC, they are limited by the presence of only one single mobile phase, leading to poor ability to separate complex samples effectively. Moreover, the main disadvantage of UV‐based detectors is their limited quantification ability.…”
