Fish assemblage was examined during the study of longitudinal profile of the Ehania River Basin in southeastern Côte d'Ivoire. This region is subjected to strong human activities with numerous plantations (palm tree, banana, pineapple, coffee, rubber and cocoa). Samples were collected, with gillnets of different mesh sizes, through 6 sampling surveys during dry and rainy seasons from February 2010 to December 2010 at 6 sampling sites. A total of 70 fish species belonging to 48 genera, 28 families and 10 orders were recorded. The temporal variation of diversity index is less marked than spatial variation. The upstream, with 35 species, was less rich in species than the medium area and downstream areas (respectively 46 and 68). The upstream and downstream areas gathered 35 species. Thirty three (33) species were common to the upper and middle areas and 46 species appeared both in the lower courses and the middle area. The 21 species restricted to the lower part of the river are mainly estuarine/marine origin. The beta diversity value revealed low similarity between the lower and upper course of Ehania River. The lowest values of Shannon's diversity index and equitability index were observed in the middle part of the River which characterized by high population density and intense agricultural activity with many plantations.

This work aims to reveal the ecological status of the Porto-Novo Lagoon in the South-East of Benin, after some development works by analyzing phytoplankton communities. The phytoplankton sampling was carried out monthly from March to august 2017 using a plankton net (30 µm in diameter) at 6 sites located using a Global Positioning System (GPS). Alpha diversity was assessed using Shannon-Weiner index and Pielou evenness. The occurrence frequency of each taxon was determined for habitat preferences. The distribution profile of the taxa was revealed by a bio typology using the algorithm of Self Organizing Maps (SOM). In total, 160 taxa (genera and species) of phytoplankton belonging to 8 phytoplankton, 11 classes, 26 orders and 31 families have been identified. Cyanophyta, Eugenophyta, Dinophyta and Pyrrophyta were each represented by one class. It was the Chlorophyta with 4 classes followed by Diatomophyta, 3 classes that were the richest phyla. This observed biodiversity shows significant monthly variations. The highest densities of certain orders such as Cyanophyceae, Chlorophyceae and Euglenophyceae in the environment revealed the eutrophic state of the waters of the lagoon. The large number of accessory species, the different values of the various biodiversity indexes calculated added to the dominance of the various tolerant polluting species indicated the ecological instability of the lagoon despite the fitting up activities made in recent years. It is urgent to redefine the typical works to be done for the sustainability of this ecosystem.

Spatio-temporal dynamics of phytoplankton and their relation to abiotic environmental factors in four rivers of south-eastern Ivory Coast (Soumi e, Eholi e, Ehania and No e) was analysed from July 2003 to March 2005. The pelagic zone of each river was sampled upstream and downstream. Phytoplankton abundance was higher in No e River (154.3 10 4 cells l À1 ) and lower in Eholi e river (23.05 10 4 cells l À1 ). Dominant taxa were Microcystis aeruginosa (K€ utz.) Lemmerm. and Aphanocapsa incerta (Lemmerm.) Cronberg & Kom arek. In general, minimum densities of phytoplankton were observed during the rainy season, while maximum were observed in dry season in the whole stations of the rivers studied, such periods corresponding to low and high concentrations of nitrates. Among the rivers surveyed, Eholi e river seems to be the least disturbed because of its higher species diversity. Seasonality fluctuations of algae abundance appear to be influenced by the flow of water and nitrate levels. This work is a useful starting point for future research on micro algae in Ivory Coast.
