“…Lipid peroxidation occurs during cellular oxidative stress, leading to the generation of malondialdehyde (MDA), a peroxidation product of fatty acids. Table 12 shows that PHRs such as amoxicillin [219,220,221], ciprofloxacin [108,222], enrofloxacin [95,97], norfloxacin [99,219], levofloxacin [102], tetracycline [57], doxycycline [71], chlortetracycline [64], florfenicol [46], thiamphenicol [46], erythromycin [113,222], spiramycin [220], sulfamethoxazole [222], carbamazepine [170] and ethinylestradiol [179] and PCPs such as triclosan [194,195] can cause increases in MDA content in different microalgal strains. The general pattern in mentioned reports is that MDA content increases up to the maximal concentration with the increase in PHRs/PCPs concentrations in the media.…”

“…In another report [220], where Microcystis aeruginosa cells were treated with spiramycin, SOD activity increased, but POD and CAT activities decreased. The SOD activity also decreased in Microcystis aeruginosa exposed to norfloxacin [219]. Results for Microcystis aeruginosa exposed to chlortetracycline show that SOD activity can increase [64] or decrease [69].…”

“…The results showed that the biofilm EPS content was increased to cope with the stress of FF and OFL. It was reported that the synthesis and secretion of EPS could be promoted when Microcystis aeruginosa was exposed to the antibiotic norfloxacin [24]. It was necessary to further elucidate the role of EPS components under the antibiotic stress.…”

“…Chlorophyll a is well-known as an important property of algae vitality, and is intimately involved in all aspects of primary photosynthesis; its content can be used to estimate the primary productivity [20]. It was found that excessive cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by antibiotic stress could damage the microbial chloroplast membrane system and the chlorophyll a content of algae decreased under the stress of norfloxacin, amoxicillin, cefradine, streptomycin, and tetracycline [19,21,22,23,24,25]. Antibiotics could also induce oxidative stress and cause antioxidant responses for algae cell to adapt to the changes of the external environment.…”
