Comprehensive Modulation and Classification of Faults and Analysis Their Effect in DC Side of Photovoltaic System

Abstract: The first step in automatic supervision, condition monitoring and fault detection of photovoltaic system is recognition, exploration and classification of all possible faults that maybe happen in the system. This paper aims to perceive, classified, simulate and discus all electrical faults in DC side of photovoltaic system, regarding electrical voltage and current inspections. For that, simplified hybrid model of photovoltaic panel in MATLAB environment is used. Investigation and classification of each type of… Show more

“…Therefore, the maximum output power (MOP) of each PV panel, P q,est , and total MOP, P est , can be estimated as LGF / UGF) [6,[11][12][13]. When any fault occurs in a PV panel, voltage, current, and power meters can be employed to measure the output power, P q,mea , of each panel, as seen in the measurement system in Figure 2(b).…”

“…Previous studies [6][7] have proposed that use of the MPPT algorithm may prevent faults during periods of lower solar radiation and night-to-day transition, as the algorithm can locate the reference value at the maximum power point. When the measured output power is degraded, based on the electrical property, faults such as grounded faults, line-to-line faults, and open circuit faults can be identified [6,[11][12][13].…”

“…As the time passes some defects evolve in solar panels [15]- [16] There are some defects like shadow of tree branches, shadow of tree leaves, shadow of building, snow deposition, deposition of dirt, dust and soil etc on solar panel surface which are not visible by naked eye there THERMOGRAPHICAL approach is used. These depositions and shadow effects give rise to several other problems like hotspots, loss of power generation, affecting performance of solar panel [17]- [18]. Now-a-days solar panels has many application areas in which health monitoring is must for increasing efficiency and reliability of the complete system [19]- [30].…”

“…Deposition of dirt (like bird droppings, cement deposits) and other natural conditions (like shading of tree or building, soiling, tree branches) on solar panel surface cause heating and loss of electrical power generation in solar panels. The condition become dangerous when there is a damage to the affected area in solar panels and probability of fault, electrical shock or fire is more [5]- [6]. Batteries in solar photovoltaic system are used to store the generated energy obtained from solar panels.…”
