Comprehensive Treatment for River Pollution in a Coastal City with a Complex River Network: A Case Study in Sanya, China

Abstract: The contamination of urban rivers substantially threatens urban ecology, public health, and general progress. Addressing this matter is complex and challenging, particularly in tidal rivers. After investigating the climate conditions, population, and distribution of rivers and pollution in Sanya, China, a hydraulic and water quality model was built for Sanya utilizing InfoWorks ICM, and a comprehensive remediation approach was proposed. The implementation of this scheme led to a substantial decrease in point a… Show more

“…The rising water temperatures of rivers are a major environmental hazard, directly and indirectly affecting the climate of neighboring regions, aquatic ecosystems, etc., but are scarcely studied regarding other causes of surface and groundwater contamination, such as chemical loads from industry or agriculture [48][49][50][51][52][53][54][55]. The considered remote sensing sources have been demonstrated to be useful tools to detect and quantify temperature changes in rivers, and the same goes for numerous water and environmental bodies (such as aquifers, wetlands, agricultural plots, etc.)…”

“…It provides experts with spatially extensive and highly synchronized data. Thermal pollution from dams has a significant impact on the downstream river environment and ecology [48][49][50][51][52]. A case study using Landsat-8 imagery (during the period 2018-2019) shows that the Shahid Abbaspour and Gotvand Dams lead to a decrease in downstream water temperature (Figure 9).…”

“…Pencemaran sungai di Indonesia merupakan salah satu masalah terbesar dan cenderung meningkat seiring dengan pesatnya perkembangan populasi dan aktivitas manusia (River n.d.). Penurunan kualitas air terus menjadi masalah serius di perairan permukaan di seluruh dunia (Song et al 2023). Kontaminasi sungai perkotaan secara substansial mengancam ekologi perkotaan, kesehatan masyarakat, dan kemajuan umum (Fadhilah et al 2023).…”
