Computational Study of Phase Change Heat Transfer and Latent Heat Energy Storage for Thermal Management of Electronic Components Using Neural Networks

Abstract: The phase change heat transfer of nano-enhanced phase change materials (NePCMs) was addressed in a heatsink filled with copper metal foam fins. The NePCM was made of 1-Tetradecanol graphite nanoplatelets. The heatsink was an annulus contained where its outer surface was subject to a convective cooling of an external flow while its inner surface was exposed to a constant heat flux. The governing equations, including the momentum and heat transfer with phase change, were explained in a partial differential equat… Show more

“…Combining the benefits of GA and Kohonen map‐based networks for forecasting of the regime of operation of PCM‐based burners for design and development of burners is a novel idea, and comparative assessment of such Kohonen map‐based networks is not available in the open literature, as can be seen in Table 1. Different ANN models are available in the literature to study thermal problems such as PCMs 37–39 . The major advantage of the present ANN approach is its ability to solve such problems without requiring significant knowledge of ANN.…”

“…PCMs have been integrated with a variety of technical applications, most notably for thermal energy storage TES. PCMs have been used in a variety of applications, including building thermal management 1 3 , solar collectors 4 , thermal energy storage 5 – 8 and other applications such as space equipment 9 , 10 , electronic cooling 11 , and the packaging industry 12 . Despite the fact that PCMs may store and release a large amount of energy when they change phases, they have a low thermal conductivity.…”
