Computer‐Aided Diagnosis of Solid Breast Lesions With Ultrasound: Factors Associated With False‐negative and False‐positive Results

Abstract: consecutive women with 338 solid breast lesions were included. All lesions were examined with US and S-Detect before biopsy or surgical excision. The final US assessments made by radiologists and S-Detect were matched to the pathologic results. Patient and lesion factors in the "true" and "false" S-Detect groups were compared, and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the factors associated with false S-Detect results.Results-The mean age of the patients AE SD was 42.6 AE 12.9 years (… Show more

“…Although the CAD methods were not exactly the same as in previous studies [17,18], high sensitivity balanced with specificity is a remarkable superiority of the quadri-planes method. Instead, the proportion of the benign lesions in our study was lower (Table 1), and the mean size of the lesions was larger; also, all the patients had breast masses as their prominent symptom, which may lead to differences between the results as in the study by Wu et al [22]. According to the BI-RADS criteria [23], we subdivided category 4 into categories 4A, 4B, and 4C, and the threshold was set to category 4A in grayscale ultrasound; consequently, the specificity was high and the sensitivity was relatively low.…”

“…All the 10 studies (English = 5, Chinese = 5) were diagnostic cohort and prospective studies [10,13,16,17,19,[22][23][24][25][26]. A total of 2054 breast masses (diameters range from 0.2 cm to 1.32 cm) from 1777 patients (age ranged from 14 to 83 years) were identified and 720 (35%) masses of them were malignant.…”

“…The pub-lication dates of the literature were from 2016 to 2019. Nine articles in the analysis evaluated breast masses in Asia [10,13,16,17,[22][23][24][25][26], while only 1 article was concerned with Africa [19]. All US examinations were performed with RS80A (Samsung Medison Co., Ltd., Seoul, Korea) which equipped S-Detect technique in US system [10,13,16,17,19,[22][23][24][25][26].…”
