Conduction Band Offset Effect on the Cu2ZnSnS4 Solar Cells Performance

Abstract: Among the causes of the degradation of the performance of kesterite-based solar cells is the wrong choice of the n-type buffer layer which has direct repercussions on the unfavorable band alignment, the conduction band offset (CBO) at the interface of the absorber/buffer junction which is one of the major causes of lower VOC. In this work, the effect of CBO at the interface of the junction (CZTS/Cd(1-x)ZnxS) as a function of the x composition of Zn with respect to (Zn+Cd) is studied using the SCAPS-1D simulato… Show more

“…We had a relative gain in efficiency compared to the result of ref [25] of 9%. However, the second structure Mo/CZTS/ZnS/ZnO/ZnO:Al presents a relative benefit of 19.6% compared to the result of ref [26]. In addition, the best results, that are obtained with the second structure, were compared with the experimental results ref [27], and a relative gain of 46% have been reached.…”

“…The resistivity values were compared with those obtained by Tanaka et al for CZTS thin lms obtained by the dip-coating method [38] and by Daranfed et al for CZTS thin lms synthesized by spray pyrolysis [39]. The obtained electrical resistivity was suitable for solar cell applications [40]. Furthermore, the electrical properties of sample C5 have not been uploaded owing to Cu-rich conditions; these latter conditions make the lm disadvantageously critical, full of dislocations, where the four points were unreachable.…”

“…They fabricated the CH 3 NH 3 PbI 3-x Cl x compound. Varying the value of x changes both the energy bandgap as well as the electron affinity of layer [91,92]. Thus, when such mixed compound is utilized to make an SC, its tunable bandgap and electron affinity value facilitates variation in the conduction and valance band offsets.…”
