We propose a layered architecture for choreographies and orchestrations of web services. The proposed architecture uses the concept of process views. The distributed nature of the model and the concept of views improve the privacy of business partners but do not limit their interaction capabilities, an essential feature in B2B and inter-organisational applications. Our approach enables description of business processes in different levels of detail with a uniform modelling language and is fully distributed. several peer-reviewed research articles including book, journal articles and conference and workshop proceedings. He has served as a member of programme committee of different international conferences and workshops and reviewer of international journals.Johann Eder is a Full Professor for Information and Communication Systems at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria. Since 2005, he is the Vice President of the Austrian Science Funds (FWF), heading the Department of Natural Sciences and Technology. He successfully directed several funded research projects, e.g., in the fields of workflow management systems, temporal data warehousing, interoperability, information systems for biobanks, self-healing 94 A. Tahamtan and J. Eder web services. He co-authored one book, edited 21 books/proceedings/special issues of journals and published more than 140 peer reviewed papers. He served as the Chair and a member in numerous programme committees for international conferences and as a Referee or Editorial Board Member for international journals. He held positions at the Universities of Vienna and Klagenfurt and visiting positions at the University of Hamburg and with AT&T Research.

Abstract. WS-BPEL is de-facto industry standard for business processes. One of its major shortcomings is lack of temporal management capabilities. WS-BPEL offers no possibility for definition, calculation and monitoring of temporal values such as activity duration and deadlines as well as checking the temporal conformance of processes. This paper tackles temporal management of WS-BPEL based on two different techniques: interval-based and probabilistic. This paper describes temporal management of cooperating WS-BPEL abstract and executable processes. We have implemented a temporal management prototype as a WS-BPEL extension.

Abstract:Temporal management and assurance of temporal compatibility is an important quality criteria for processes within and across organizations. Temporal conformance increases QoS and reduces process execution costs. WS-BPEL as the accpetd industry standard lacks sufficient temporal management capabilities. In this paper we introduce BPEL-TIME, a WS-BPEL extension for time management purposes. It allows the definition, execution and monitoring of business processes with time management capabilities. This extension makes a fixed, variable and probabilistic representation of temporal constraints possible and checks if the model is temporally compliant. Our approach avoids temporal failures by the prediction of the future temporal behavior of business processes.
