Conjugated Conductive Polymer Materials and its Applications: A Mini-Review

Abstract: Since their discovery 50 years ago, conjugated conducting polymers have received increasing attention owing to their unique conductive properties and potential applications in energy storage, sensors, coatings, and electronic devices such as organic field-effect transistors, photovoltaic cells, and light-emitting devices. Recently, these materials have played a key role in providing a more comfortable environment for humans. Consequently, the development of novel, high-performance conjugated conductive materia… Show more

“…However, other factors such as backbone planarity, conjugation length, and aggregation strength also play a large role in charge transport, and since heavier polychalcogenophenes notably suffer from poorer solubility, their lower thin film quality can also reduce observed carrier mobilities as well. 145,182 In addition, better edge-on crystallinities have been observed for conjugated polymers bearing shorter alkyl side chains, although longer side chains result in better edge-on orientations at the thin film-substrate interface. Thermal annealing, which promotes edge-on orientation, shows the greatest crystallinity improvement for longer side chain polymers.…”

“…Also, oxidation and reduction are easily done in these polymers compared to conventional polymers. [122] The synthesis of conjugated polymers is done in two different chemical and electrochemical methods. In chemical oxidative polymerization, oxidants such as FeCl 3 are used and the polymerization process begins with a radical cation.…”

“…In the past two decades, significant research efforts have been directed towards the elaboration of conjugated donor–acceptor copolymers of –(D–A)– or –(D–A–D)– types [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. These organic semiconductors frequently exhibit interesting physical and chemical properties that are unmatched or, at least, difficult to match by other groups of organic electroactive compounds.…”
