Construction Cost Prediction Based on Genetic Algorithm and BIM

Abstract: According to the analysis and prediction of engineering cost, a BIM-aided analysis method based on GA network model is proposed. First, we improve the neural network by genetic algorithm; second, according to the engineering feature vector, BIM software is used to train the GA network model; finally, the GA network model reaches a steady state, given prediction of Engineering cost. According to the experimental study of 20 high-rise residential buildings in YJW area, the experimental results show that the prop… Show more

“…A multitude of computational and design tools platforms have emerged as a result of the advancement of information technology to provide environment for structural modeling, design, and analysis. Few well-known software packages, such as ANSYS [95], BIM [96], ABAQUS [97] Significantly improve computation speed and get acceptable results. However, not all software packages work as well as others.…”

“…Lin and Huang have also used machine learning to speed up the filtering and the elimination of irrelevant clash detection results in their research [43]. A Genetic algorithm (GA) that improved a neural network and then was used with BIM software to train a GA network model that gave a prediction of construction costs was developed in [44]. The effectiveness of BIM modeling and coordination processes in Multi-Trade Prefabrication (MTP) was analyzed in a case study by Jang and Lee [45].…”

“…With regard to the costs relating to new construction interventions, numerous studies have been carried out with the aim of estimating the monetary amounts necessary for the realization of the project, both in terms of realization ex-novo [6][7][8][9][10] that of reconstruction following seismic events [11][12][13][14][15][16]. The process of defining a project involves further categories of costs whose analysis and estimate allows one to provide a more comprehensive economic framework.…”
