Construction of CdS quantum dots via a regioselective dendritic functionalized cellulose template

Abstract: Using regioselective dendritic functionalized cellulose, CdS quantum dot nanoparticles were prepared and their photo-optical properties and morphology as well as the preliminary biocompatibility of the hybrid were investigated.

“…With the decrease of the size of CdS particle, the absorption threshold shifts to shorter wavelengths as a result of quantum confinement effect [13]. Figure 4A presents the UV-Vis absorption spectra of CdS NCs taken at different refluxing times (15 min and 120 min, respectively).…”

“…For example, they exhibit significantly low intrinsic viscosities in solution because of their globular shapes, which is particularly valuable for composite processing. Hassan and coworkers regioselectively dendronized cellulose with diverse siloxy and carbamate dendrons with different peripheral groups by homogenous substitution reactions (Hassan et al 2005;Hassan et al 2004;Hwang et al 2006). The dendronized celluloses possess a wide range of solubilities in organic solvents.…”

“…The dendronized celluloses possess a wide range of solubilities in organic solvents. Similarly, Heinze and Pohl et al dendronized cellulose with polyester and polyamidoamine dendrons (Heinze et al 2007;Heinze et al 2008;Hwang et al 2006;Pohl et al 2009) to make it soluble in polar solvents. In addition to enhancing solubility of cellulose, the dendronization can also endow cellulose novel properties and applications.…”
