“…The RCM-AKI incidence observed in the present study compares favorably with the 10%-20% in the ACS population. The RCM-AKI incidences in the 3 most recent coronary intervention studies are all higher than that observed in our cohort: 11.5% (45/392, P ϭ .008) reported by Wickenbrock et al, 15 10.2% (41/400, P Ͻ .03) reported by Jabara et al, 16 and 20.5% (115/561, P Ͻ .0001) reported by Marenzi et al 17 In pooling the 201 separate…”

“…Although the incidence reported in the literature concerning endovascular interventions for ACS ranges from 10% to 20%, [15][16][17] our small study size makes it impossible to make a fair intercohort comparison. A much larger study is required to determine the true incidence of RCM-AKI in endovascularly treated patients with AIS before such comparison can be made.…”

“…Previous studies have shown that patients with CIN were older in the general patient population (Valente et al 2006;Bouzas-Mosquera et al 2007;Wickenbrock et al 2009). Although our study population was strictly composed of postmenopausal women, we also showed that patients with CIN were older, and typically 1) had a longer menopausal duration (usually longer than 10 years) and 2) were older than 65 years.…”

“…It occurs frequently in patients undergoing urgent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute myocardial infarction (AMI), with incidence rates reaching 10.82%2 8.00% (Marenzi et al 2004(Marenzi et al , 2009Valente et al 2006;Bouzas-Mosquera et al 2007;Senoo et al 2010). Its development is associated with poor outcomes (McCullough et al 1997;Gruberg et al 2000;Rihal et al 2002;Marenzi et al 2004Marenzi et al , 2009Valente et al 2006;Bouzas-Mosquera et al 2007;Shema et al 2009;Wickenbrock et al 2009), including prolonged hospitalization, increased in-hospital mortality rates and increased long-term adverse events. Therefore, CIN has become a major challenge faced by interventional cardiologists in the era of routine PCI.…”

“…Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been proven to be the best option to recanalize the artery for STEMI patients. However, because of the use of contrast medium, the STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI are at higher risk of contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) than those undergoing elective interventions (Wickenbrock et al 2009), which not only increases the duration of hospital stay, but is also associated with an increased mortality rate (Best et al 2002;Lindsay et al 2004). The different threshold criteria chosen for CIN will lead to varied rates of 6%-35% of inpatients exposed to iodinated contrast medium.…”
