Contribution to the knowledge of the syntaxonomy and ecology of macchie and forest vegetation in Paphlagonia, North Anatolia, Turkey

Abstract: Abstract.-In this study, the vegetation of Boztepe Forest Protection Area (Unye/Ordu, Turkey), which is located at the middle part of Black Sea region, has been investigated from the phytosociological point of view. The vegetation of the study area was analyzed according to Braun-Blanquet's method and ordinated by TWINSPAN and CA. We described five associatons belonging to different vegetation types in the study area. These are as follows: Calluno vulgarisArbutetum unedonis ass. nov., Hedero helicis-Castaneetu… Show more

“…Sclerophyllous forests and scrubland of Mediterranean vegetation dominated by Olea europaea , Buxus sempervirens , Arbutus unedo and Laurus nobilis often appear not only along the coastline of the Euxine region but also in low elevational belts of inner Anatolia (Quézel et al., 1980; Yurdakulol et al., 1992, 2002; Kılınç & Karaer, 1995; Özen & Kılınç, 1995; Korkmaz et al., 2008, 2011; Karaer et al., 2010). “…Two different sites were selected. The first site is an undisturbed and even aged intensive forest belonging to Euxine phytogeographical region dominated by Fagus orientalist Lipsky (Fagaceae) and at 205 m.a.s.l (Korkmaz et al, 2008). The other woody species were Vaccinium arctostaphylos L. (Ericaceae), Populus tremula L. (Salicaceae), sorbus torminalis L. (Rosaceae), Quercus hartwissiana Steven.…”

“…The Alnus glutinosa subsp. barbata forests in the Colchic Region were classified as Alnion barbatae under Rhododendron -Fagetalia, which is the characteristic order of the Euro-Siberian zonal deciduous forests (Quézel et al, 1980;Quézel and Barbero, 1992;Akman, 1995;Korkmaz et al, 2008). However, Alnion barbatae forests are more riverine and ravine forests rather than being floodplain forests, but 14 diagnostic species were identified for Alnion barbatae (Akman, 1995) and only two of them, Circaea lutetiana and Frangula dodonei subsp.…”
