“…Equivalent figures for a winter’s day were 452 kJ m −2 , 439 kJ m −2 (97%), and 14 kJ m −2 (3%) (data supplied by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology). In Valladolid (41.6532° N, 4.7246° E, 692 m ASL), Spain, during 2002–2011, the maximum daily UV-B dose in May and June was 50.24 kJ m −2 and the minimum was 0.88 kJ m −2 in January and December [ 69 ]. Escobedo-Bretado et al [ 70 ] reported the mean monthly accumulated UV-A dose at Durango, Mexico in December 2015 to be 905 kJ m −2 ·day −1 and in June 2016 to be 1732 kJ m −2 ·day.…”

“…The relationships between the global solar radiation and UV-B radiation at four stations in Egypt have been studied and linear empirical formulas for estimating UV-B from global radiation at these stations has been deduced. Likewise, Bilbao and Miguel [28] analyze a series of UV-B broadband solar irradiances, 280-315 nm, measured during the period 2002 to 2011 in Valladolid, Spain. This has led to the daily UV-B values following the pattern of the solar elevation angle.…”

“…UVA has the longest wavelength, ranging from 320 and 400 nm, and a penetration level of 95% through the ozone; UVB has a penetration level of 5% and a range of 290-320 nm; and finally UVC with a range of 200-290 nm which is absorbed by our stratosphere [12]. The penetration level of UVA is constant throughout the day while UVB's penetration level will increase to its highest value of 5% at midday [13]. As our eyes take in light, they are also exposed to UVR which may cause damage to ocular tissues, but the human eye has unique UVR-filtering systems.…”
