Control System for a Combined Cycle

Abstract

The paper describes the organization and the architecture of the digital control system for the combined cycle of FIAT Mirafiori power plant. The choice of functions subject to automatic control is connected to the features required such as: - automatic start-up with steam turbine as prime mover; - operation of the cicle either in parallel or in “island” mode with regard to the national grid; - sliding pressure on the steam generation side, for higher cycle efficiency; In order to take into account interactions between the different equipment in the definition of the control functions, the behaviour of the whole cycle physical variables has been examined by a digital dynamic simulation.
