Abstract: Waterfall retreat transmits base‐level perturbations upstream, thereby providing markers of changing climate and tectonics. In homogeneous rock, waterfalls often retreat either by direct waterfall‐face erosion or incision from repeating (‘cyclic’) steps formed above waterfalls.
