Conventional Breeding and Molecular Markers for Blast Disease Resistance in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Abstract: Monogenic lines, which carried 23 genes for blast resistance were tested and used donors to transfer resistance genes by crossing method. The results under blast nursery revealed that 9 genes from 23 genes were susceptible to highly susceptible under the three locations (Sakha, Gemmeza, and Zarzoura in Egypt);

“…Multiplexing, or the simultaneous targeting of many genes with a single molecular construct, is one of the added benefits of the CRISPR/Cas9 system. Both individual transcription units and polycistronic forms of multiple sgRNAs can be inserted (Čermák et al, 2017;Rezk et al, 2023;Sattar et al, 2023). Many experiments have been reported in bread wheat using different explants with different transformation methods, such as electroporated microspores (Bhowmik et al, 2018), PEGtransfected protoplasts Zhang et al, 2017), cell suspension Agrobacterium transformation (Upadhyay et al, 2013), immature embryos and immature embryo Agrobacterium transformation (Howells et al, 2018;Singh et al, 2018), immature embryos, immature embryo particle bombardment transformation (Gil-Humanes et al, 2017;Wang et al, 2018;Hamada et al, 2018).…”

“…Over half of the world's population consumes rice ( Oryza sativa L.) as their primary food; for over 3.5 billion people, rice accounts for 20 % of their daily caloric intake ( Naomi and Ziska, 2019 , Rezk et al, 2023 ). Regardless, 90 % of the world's production comes from over 100 countries in Asia ( Bandumula, 2018 ).…”
