Contributions to the Electrical Safety Knowledge Base I EEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) committees are making significant technical contributions to the IEEE knowledge base about electrical safety. A year-end search of the 2020 IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications found 24 articles published about topics closely related to electrical safety. Two of those articles have been highlighted in this column in previous issues of IEEE Industry Applications Magazine. The following is a brief summary of the remaining articles. Mining Industry Committee• "Common Mode Voltage Elimination in Variable Speed Drives for Improved Electrical Safety," by Mirzaeva, Carter, Uddin, and Stepien [1], proposes a drive design solution that eliminates commonmode voltage and removes alternative paths for fault current.• "Phase-Ground Fault Current Analysis and Protection of a High-Resistance Grounded Power System," by Paul [2], offers a thorough treatment of high-resistance grounded systems that use symmetrical com-ponents and phasor diagrams for application to ground-fault protection relays.
