Coordination of Multilayered Signalling Pathways on Vascular Cambium Activity

Abstract: Secondary growth depends on the activity of cambial stem cells, which proliferate, and then descendant cells differentiate into the transport tissues, secondary phloem, and secondary xylem. The proliferation of cambial stem cells is regulated by various signals, including long‐distance hormonal signalling from apical meristems, and short‐range peptide signals from surrounding tissues. These long‐ and short‐distance signalling pathways interact and coordinately modulate cambium activity. Furthermore, a large nu… Show more

“…Significant progress has been made in our understanding of peptide signaling, including the TDIF-PXY/TDR module and the EPFL4/6-ER/ERL1 module, in regulating vascular development (Fukuda and Hardtke, 2020;Wang, 2020;Wang and Wang, 2020). While the TDIF-PXY signaling in vascular development has been the subject of much research since the discovery of TDIF, many questions remain.…”

“…Vascular tissues are organized as bundles in stems of both monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous plants. Lodging resistance and crop production are positively related to increased vascular bundles in cereal crops (Fujita et al ., 2013; Wang & Wang, 2020). The Arabidopsis stem shows a developmental gradient from top to bottom.…”

“…The Arabidopsis stem develops five to eight vascular bundles under long‐day conditions. However, the mechanisms for regulating vascular bundle formation and cambium activity are not well‐understood (Miyashima et al ., 2013; Tonn & Greb, 2017; Wang & Wang, 2020; Hunziker & Greb, 2024; Wang, 2024).…”
