Copolyimide mixed matrix membranes with oriented microporous titanosilicate JDF-L1 sheet particles

Abstract: JDF-L1 is a microporous titanosilicate exhibiting a layer structure with pore sizes of about 3 Å. It is consequently an attractive material to separate H 2-containing mixtures. This is the reason why JDF-L1, after disaggregation by means of hexadecyltrimethylammonium surfactant, has been combined with a carboxyl group containing copolyimide (6FDA-4MPD/6FDA-DABA 4:1) to produce mixed matrix membranes, which were applied to the separation of H 2 /CH 4 and O 2 /N 2 mixtures. Additionally, due to the sheet growth … Show more

“…Metal organic frameworks (MOF) [20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28], zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) [29][30][31][32][33], activated carbon [15,34], carbon nano tubes [35][36][37][38][39], titanosilicates [40,41], and ordered mesoporous silica [11,[42][43][44][45][46][47] are other types of porous materials that have been applied as the dispersed phase in mixed matrix membrane fabrication. Silica [42,[48][49][50][51][52][53], TiO 2 [42,[54][55][56][57], and fullerene (C60) [58] are the most conventional impermeable inorganic particles used for the MMMs fabrication.…”

“…The aforementioned materials in lamellar form have been used as inorganic fillers in mixed-matrix membranes [87,88]. Such sheet-shaped or lamellar fillers have a high aspect ratio, which allows casting of thin mixed-matrix membranes.…”
