Copper ions removal from aqueous solutions using acid-chitosan functionalized carbon nanotubes sheets

Abstract: A B S T R A C TCopper ions (Cu 2+ ) removal from aqueous solutions using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) sheets was performed. CNTs sheets were synthesized via chemical vapor deposition of cyclohexanol and ferrocene in nitrogen atmosphere at 750˚C, and functionalized with concentrated nitric acid and chitosan. The as-synthesized and functionalized CNTs sheets were used as adsorbents for copper ions removal from water. The results demonstrated that functionalization with concentrated nitric acid and chitosan improves c… Show more

“…This is aided by the good dispersion of the CNTs in a CD solution. Normally, for efficient dispersion, the CNTs are treated in nitric acid to generate -COOH groups [76]. Although this is an efficient strategy, the generation of -COOH groups enhances the dispersion of the CNTs, leading to environmental concerns as these functionalized CNTs are readily released into the aquatic environment [77].…”

“…69 Chemical vapor deposition method was used to synthesize MWCNTs as reported in our previous works. 45,[70][71][72][73][74][75][76] In order to prepare the GONRs, 1 g of the synthesized MWCNTs was added into 180 ml concentrated H 2 SO 4 and stirred for 2 h at room temperature. Then, 20 ml H 3 PO 4 was poured into the dispersion, and the mixture was stirred for another 15 min.…”
