“…scRNA-seq helped us to identify the most abundant transcripts in pig oocytes and early IVF/PA embryos, including protein-coding RNAs from both mitochondrial and nuclear genomes. Mitochondria are maternally inherited in mammals 34 , playing an essential role in the regulation of oocyte maturation and early embryo development via oxidative phosphorylation to provide energy 31 , 35 . Mitochondrial mRNAs (except ATP8) gradually increase from MII oocytes to 8-cell embryos in both pig IVF and PA groups, suggesting that active transcription of mitochondrial genome is needed to supply the basic energy requirement for MZT during early embryo development.…”

“…Similarly, Yang et al. (2021) reported CoQ10 could improve the meiotic maturation of pig oocytes, especially for poor‐quality oocytes. One possible explanation for these facts is that a considerable proportion of IDB supplemented in the IVM medium may not only alleviate the damage of HS but also improve the maturation environment by eliminating the excessive ROS in porcine oocytes, giving rise to a higher blastocyst formation and achieving a better blastocyst quality.…”

“…CoQ 10 also improves cytoplasmic maturation by affecting mitochondrial function by improving distribution patterns of mitochondrial, increasing the expression of mitochondrion-associated genes involved in the respiratory chain and metabolism-related genes ( 16 , 18 20 , 25 ). Also it improves nuclear maturation via reduction in DNA fragmentation, restoring spindle assembly, chromosome alignment, and actin organization ( 19 , 25 27 ). In this regard, it has been investigated that the presence of 30 μM CoQ 10 in the maturation media of sheep oocytes increased the gene expression of Growth Differentiation Factor-9 (GDF-9) as well as follicular development ( 16 , 28 ).…”
