Corking Nano Test Tubes by Chemical Self-Assembly

Abstract: There is tremendous current interest in using nanoparticles to deliver biomolecules and macromolecules (e.g., drugs and DNA) to specific sites in living systems. Release of the biomedical payload from the nanoparticle can be accomplished by chemical or enzymatic degradation of the nanoparticle or of the link between the payload and the nanoparticle. We are exploring an alternative payload-release strategy that builds on our work on template-synthesized nano test tubes. These are hollow nanotubes that are close… Show more

“…Nanoscale ABO 3 materials with hollow structures display novel physical properties that are different from their bulk and film counterparts, [5] and also have fantastic features of large interior spaces, low density, high specific surface area, and well permeation properties, providing wider application potentials such as catalysis, chemical storage, battery electrodes and photonic crystals [6]. Therefore, efforts have been exerted on the preparation of perovskite materials with hollow structures [5][6][7][8][9][10]. Among these reports, the hydrothermal process [6,7] is a common method, but this method is both environmentally and chemically unfriendly since concentrated KOH solution (12-20 mol L À 1 ) is used as the hydrothermal medium.…”
