Corona-induced pressures, potentials, fields and currents in electrostatic precipitator configurations

Abstract: This paper is aimed at assessing analytically the dc corona induced pressures in wire-cylinder and wire-plate electrostatic precipitator configurations. This calls for solving the equations describing the corona discharge and the force balance for static gas equilibrium provided that the corona onset voltage and the space-charge-free field values are calculable. The calculated pressure and potential distributions along the gap axis in air and nitrogen at atmospheric pressure agreed well with those measured pre… Show more

“…The value of c p used in this paper is 3 Â 10 À3 , although its value is also suggested to be 1 Â 10 À3 . 11,24 For a wide range of conductor radii and relative air densities, the constant values of l and c p are used. The set of transport parameters in the self-sustained criterion was verified by Peek's experimental data.…”

“…21,22 An unified expression for evaluating the positive dc corona onset can be achieved by introducing a geometric factor. [23][24][25] The effective photon wavelength responsible for photoionization also can be considered based on the classic corona onset criterion. [26][27][28] However, the self-sustained conditions with photoionization for the positive dc corona plasmas between coaxial cylinders have not been clearly clarified before.…”

“…Further validation results are shown in Figure 5, which compare the airflow rates and the static pressures of the present simulation against experimental data and numerical results presented in [38], for a range of input power. The electrostatic pressure created due to the body force, which acts on the collecting surface and equals the channel static pressure, can be calculated by integrating the body force within the volume across the electrodes [38,44],…”

The pressure at any point (z) along the electrode gap, G, for an EHD wireto-plane configuration is given as [42],…”
