Correction of Depressed Forehead With BoneSource in Cleidocranial Dysplasia

Abstract: Cleidocranial dysplasia is a well-documented rare congenital disorder of the bone characterized by abnormalities of the skull, clavicle, and dentition. Despite numerous observations, there are still comparatively few reports regarding patients with cleidocranial dysplasia that focus on the impact of reconstruction of these defects on facial aesthetics. We report a 19-year-old woman with opened metopic and sagittal sutures and delayed closure of the anterior fontanelle. Through bicoronal incision and pericrania… Show more

“…Another unique feature of the patient with CCD in our study was a thickened skull bone. Compared with previous reports indicating that CCD patients with RUNX2 mutations usually had a decreased craniofacial bone mass [26][27][28], the patient with CCD in our study exhibited skull bone thickening. To a certain extent, this clinical feature seems to be consistent with our functional results, from which the mutation leads to increased expression of both RUNX2 mRNA and RUNX2 protein.…”

“…Madeira et al ., reported the surgical and orthognathic care of a 21-year-old female CCD patient. 31 They revealed favorable outcomes when addressing class III skeletal and dental malocclusion. 31 In our study, clinical care began when the patient was 14 years-old.…”

“…Calvarial defects in the open anterior fontanelle, sagittal suture, and metopic suture have been successfully corrected by cranioplasty using bone cement 34 . Midface deficiency can be corrected by orthognathic surgery after growth is complete 35, 36.…”
