Bio-based photocurable polymers are increasingly in demand as environmentally friendly materials for advanced applications. Together with functional fillers, these represent a next step for the generation of functional and active smart materials, compatible with additive manufacturing technologies. Herein, acrylated epoxidized soybean oil (AESO) mixed with different amounts of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) up to 6 wt% in order to obtain UV-curable piezoresistive and thermoresistive materials, is reported. It is shown that the addition of rGO to AESO hinders the curing process, but always maintains double bond conversions higher than 50%. Composites are characterized by a good dispersion of micrometric filler clusters. Further, the thermal stabilities are close to 300 °C and crosslinking degrees are above 1.75 mmol cm -3 . The Young modulus of the composites decreases with the addition of the rGO fillers, in particular for the higher filler contents, and electrical conductivities up to 0.13 S m -1 are obtained for the composites with the highest rGO content. UV-curable composites with piezoresistive and thermoresistive responses suitable for applications are thus obtained, characterized by gauge factors around 26 for deformations up to 2% and maximum thermoresistive sensitivity of S = 0.43, values similar to the values obtained for petroleum-based materials.

Electric-based vehicles (EV) come as an option for the solution over the GHG emissions problem resulting from energy production and transportation. Background. The demand for nickel, as a vital component of the lithium-ion batteries used in EV increases significantly and Indonesia plays a critical role as the owner of the world's largest nickel reserve. While exporting raw materials can increase national income, Indonesia misses out on the opportunity to capture higher value-added benefits from downstream processing and manufacturing. The nickel export ban policy is proposed by the Indonesian government as an effort to encourage the growth of the domestic nickel processing industry and capture higher value from the country’s nickel resources. From the creation of domestic value addition, industrial development, and sustainable resource management, it is hoped that Indonesia will move toward sustainable economic development. Methods. This paper reviewed component required to assess the nickel export strategy for long-term economic growth. We used a straightforward approach, outlining each sustainability principle's underlying objectives and providing justifications for why it should be considered in the nickel sector. By citing justifications for their advantages and justifications for their risks, we analyzed the existing policy. Results and discussions. Indonesia's nickel sector does not comply with sustainability principles and is used as a raw material for electric vehicle batteries, but it may only benefit a few people rather than the general welfare of the community. Conclusion. Therefore, the government's decision to impose a ban on nickel exports is correct, but it must be accompanied by efforts to improve both in terms of technology and policies regarding natural resource management. To control the power inclination to ensure sustainability and equality that sustainable natural resource management promotes, further study of the political component is required.

Soil metal contamination in recreational shooting ranges represents a widespread environmental problem. Lead (Pb) is the primary component of traditional ammunition, followed by metalloids such as antimony (Sb) and arsenic (As). Lead-based bullets and pellets deposited on the soil surface are subject to steady weathering; hence, metal(loid)s are released and accumulated in the underlying soil, with potential adverse consequences for ecosystem function and human health. Amongst the currently available environmentally-safe technologies for the remediation of metal-contaminated soils, chemical immobilization is recognized as the most practical and cost-effective one. This technology often uses inorganic and organic amendments to reduce metal mobility, bioavailability and toxicity (environmental benefits). Likewise, amendments may also promote and speed up the re-establishment of vegetation on metal-affected soils, thus facilitating the conversion of abandoned shooting ranges into public green spaces (social benefit). In line with this, the circular economy paradigm calls for a more sustainable waste management, for instance, by recycling and reusing by-products and wastes in an attempt to reduce the demand for raw materials (economic benefit). The objective of this manuscript is to present a state-of-the-art review of the different industrial and agro-food by-products and wastes used for the remediation of metal-contaminated shooting range soils.
