The xiphosurids are a typical chelicerae group with massive morphological, anatomical, biochemical, and ecological documentation. Despite this study, information about extant horseshoe crab abnormalities is underexplored, especially in the Indonesian region. Thus, this study aims to investigate the abnormal horseshoe crab in Subang, West Java. This research was conducted from January until February 2020 in Legon Wetan, Subang, West Java. Here, we only documented abnormalities of extant xiphosurids namely Tachypleus gigas. During the study, we greatly found extant abnormal xiphosurids by identifying 45 specimens with a wide range of abnormalities on the cephalothorax (prosoma), thoracetron (opisthosoma), telson, and appendages. The abnormal coastal horseshoe crab found also included adults (male and female) and juveniles ranging from 11.6 cm to 21 cm of carapace width. We note that the most common abnormal body parts are the cephalothorax and the thoracetron. Although the original cause may be unknown, the three main causes of the abnormality-inducing which are injuries such as self-injuries or fishing net injuries, physiologic developmental abnormalities or teratologies, and pathologies.

Peacock bass (Cichla spp.) originates from the Neotropical environments of Brazil and Venezuela but, through trade and smuggling for aquarium keeping, sport fishing and aquaculture, it is now an emerging concern. Yet, less is known for Cichla spp. distribution and its ability to invade new environments. Aimed to communicate on Cichla spp. ecology, biology and introduction schemes from Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar and also National Centre for Biotechnology Information, this review also contains management strategies for invading fish species. While Cichla spp. can displace native fish populations, this concern is explained using ecological functions, physiological demands, direct and secondary invasion, disease tolerance and parasite spillover. Briefly, Cichla spp. has rapid embryogenesis (72 h) and matures in short periods (11-12 months), giving it an advantage to colonize new environments. With a large appetite, this true piscivore gains territorial control over water bodies by making it their feeding and nursery grounds. Perceived as an emerging concern after becoming introduced, seal-off or sport fishing were used to manage Cichla spp. but, this practice is not sustainable for the entire ecosystem. Hence, we recommend bottom-up management that involves community participation because they interact with the fish and have knowledge about their environment.

Compendium of hand, foot and mouth disease data in Malaysia from years 2010–2017

This data article is constructed using information from hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks in every Malaysian state. Important information like total number of cases from every state and age group, humidity, air temperature and wind as well as types of viruses isolated from patients infected with hand, foot and mouth disease were gathered and sorted into four tables. The information sources include Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU), National Centre for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Since the Ministry of Health Malaysia only begun archiving hand, foot and mouth disease cases between years 2010–2017 in MAMPU, weather data extractions are following the similar timeline. Conversely, published data on viruses and their serotypes associated to hand, foot and mouth disease were extracted from NCBI but, data availability were limited between the years 2010 and 2014.
