Correlations between glycolysis with clinical traits and immune function in bladder urothelial carcinoma

Abstract: Background: Glycolysis was a representative hallmark in the tumor microenvironment, and we aimed to explore the correlations between glycolysis with immune activity and clinical traits in bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA). Method: Our study obtained glycolysis scores for each BLCA samples from TCGA by a single-sample gene-set enrichment analysis(ssGSEA) algorithm, based on a glycolytic gene set. The relationship between glycolysis with prognosis, clinical characteristics, and immune activity were investigate… Show more

“…To our knowledge, this study reveals for the first time the regulatory effect of cancer cell‐expressed IDO1 on glycolysis. Previous bioinformatic analyses have examined the IDO1–glycolysis link in tumor tissues, 49,50 yet they fell short of concretely defining the role of cancer cell‐expressed IDO1 in glycolysis. This gap in understanding is significant, considering that both immune and tumor cells can express IDO1.…”

“…Cancer cells with high glycolytic activity therefore have a strong ability to evade immune surveillance due to the impaired ability of immune cells to kill cancer cells. [114] However, extensive research is now being focused on ways to improve the antitumor effects of immune cells, such as by inhibiting the glycolysis of tumor cells.…”

“…GPI carries out the second step of catalytic glycolysis. In BC, GPI and other glycolytic enzymes are upregulated during cancer progression [ 20 ]. Overexpression of GPI has also been detected in other cancer types [ 21 ].…”
