Objective:To examine predictors associated with quality of life (QoL) in Brazilian medical students.Methods:PubMed, PsycINFO, EMBASE, LILACS, and Google Scholar were searched for research articles in English or Portuguese published through August 2018. Observational studies that measured QoL with standard instruments were selected. Three instruments were used to evaluate QoL: the World Health Organization QoL questionnaires (WHOQOL-Bref and WHOQOL-100) and 36-item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Hedges’ g was used to calculate effect sizes. A random-effects model was used in meta-analyses. PRISMA guidelines were followed.Results:The initial search retrieved 8,504 articles; 24 met the eligibility criteria for systematic review, and seven for meta-analyses of gender (n=3,402 students). Predictors of QoL such as gender, years of medical school(years of study), economic class, educational environment, academic efficacy, depression, burnout, resilience, empathic concern, sleep difficulties, chronic illness, body mass index, and leisure-time physical activity were identified in the systematic review. The most frequent predictors of QoL detected in Brazilian medical students were associated with gender and years of study.Conclusions:Female medical students had lower QoL scores in the physical health and psychological domains of WHOQOL-Bref compared to male students. Specific interventions should be designed for this group as appropriate.Systematic review registry number:PROSPERO CRD-42018102259.

Productivity demand of Brazilian Postgraduate Programs has increased as a result of global scientific andtechnological competitiveness, leading to stresses among researchers and students. Thus, this work was aimed atevaluating the quality of life of students of one Postgraduate Program in Agronomy through the WHOQOL-bref. Ofthe 36 students evaluated, there was a predominance of single women, childless, with a median age of 27 years, in aMaster Degree, without paid work or scholarship. The sample studied presented values below the median of theBrazilian population, when corrected for gender and age, for the psychological, social relations and environmentdomains. Students with partner had lower values for physical and psychological domains and students with paidwork showed a lower value for physical domain. The work phase affected the quality of life. The values for theenvironment domain increased when the student was writing the project, studying subjects and seeking theoreticalframework and decreased when the student was analysing the data. As the University is the dominant environmentfor the students when in post graduation, the activities that are associated with academic infrastructure as library andlaboratories, and with human resources as teachers and colleagues are realized with successful in relation to thosethat depend of the students themselves as the data analysis. These results alert us for the need for therapeuticinterventions aimed at improving the health conditions of postgraduate students.

University students’ free time management and quality of life: the mediating role of leisure satisfaction

The impact of free time management and leisure satisfaction on quality of life is distinct, however, the role of satisfaction in enhancing quality of life through free time management remains uncertain. Hence, the objective of this research is to explore how leisure satisfaction acts as a mediator between free time management and the levels of quality of life among university students. Additionally, this study aims to analyse these concepts in relation to gender, age and the number of days of activity participation. Within this particular framework, a total of 213 university students willingly participated in the survey, which included the administration of the “Free Time Management Scale,” “Leisure Satisfaction Scale,” and “Quality of Life Scale.” The analyses employed the Independent T-Test, Pearson Correlation, and Linear Regression methods. The mediating effect was analysed using Structural Equation Modelling. The study found significant relationships between gender, free time management, and life quality. There was a significant relationship between free time management, leisure satisfaction, and quality of life (p < 0.05). Leisure satisfaction partially mediated the quality of life-free time management relationship. As age and physical activity grow, males have a higher standard of living, and time allocation and quality of life improve. Furthermore, it was found that students who effectively managed their time experienced an enhanced quality of life, as evidenced by their increased satisfaction with leisure activities. Notably, the level of satisfaction with well-managed time was identified as a crucial factor in this association.
