COSMOS-7: Video-Oriented MPEG-7 Scheme for Modelling and Filtering of Semantic Content

Abstract: MPEG-7 prescribes a format for semantic content models for multimedia to ensure interoperability across a multitude of platforms and application domains. However, the standard leaves open how the models should be used and how their content should be filtered. Filtering is a technique used to retrieve only content relevant to user requirements, thereby reducing the necessary content-sifting effort of the user. This paper proposes an MPEG-7 scheme which can be deployed for semantic content modelling and filterin… Show more

“…The representation of spatial relationships in video has been extensively discussed [Weiming, Nianhua, Li, Xianglin and Maybank 2011]. One of the most important abilities of a semantic content model should be to be able to query the position of objects in relation to other objects or their relative positioning within the shot, not just as a reference to their absolute positioning stated as coordinates [Agius and Angelides 2005]. Unlike spatial relationship in images, spatial relationships in video have a temporal dimension.…”

“…Semantically queries can be structured to investigate the temporal relationships not only between syntactic features, but also semantic features. Temporal relationships between these features allow the content model to express dynamism at the higher level [Agius and Angelides 2005]. Temporal relationships were first defined meaningfully by J.F.…”

“…However, the domain of Bocconi et al is matter-of opinion documentaries based on interview. Agius and Angelides (2005) proposed the COSMOS-7 system that models the objects along with a set of events in which the objects participate, as well as events along with a set of objects and temporal relationships between the objects. This system/model Documentary media objects represents the events at a higher level only like speak, play, listen and not at the level of actions, gestures and movements.…”
