Cost-Effectiveness Model of Topical Treatment of Mild to Moderate Psoriasis Vulgaris in Germany

Abstract: Background: Psoriasis vulgaris requires lifelong treatment associated with considerable health cost. Studies showed that a combination of a steroid and a vitamin D3 analogue is more effective than both compounds in monotherapy. Objective: To determine the cost-effectiveness of a fix calcipotriol/betamethasone combination (Daivobet®/Dovobet®/Taclonex®) compared to a morning/evening non-fix calcipotriol/betamethasone combination in psoriasis treatment. Methods: A Markov model (discrete-time stochastic… Show more

“…The formulation was well tolerated with no serious adverse events, a fact that has been well established in the medical literature even after long-term use of the calcipotriol/betamethasone formulation for scalp psoriasis [13]. In addition, cost-effectiveness of the two-compound formulation has been shown to be superior to that of the morning-evening non-fix combination for psoriasis vulgaris [14]. …”

“…In these studies, calcipotriol plus betamethasone dipropionate ointment was significantly more effective than either compound used alone [18,19,20,21,22,23,24]. The advantage of using the 2-compound product is further supported by the cost-effectiveness of the treatment [25, 26]. …”
