Abstract:Relapse is infrequent and generally mild with acid secreting status closely monitored. The ideal strategy to balance costs and testing awaits further study.
“…Close clinical follow-up is important, and routine gastric acid analysis was helpful in identifying a rise or fall in acid secretion which enhanced therapy. While our results support the use of endoscopy and gastric acid analysis for monitoring, the timing of such investigations is unknown [5]. Recurrent symptoms in the compliant patient should raise suspicion for a rise in acid secretion, the cause of which remains speculative.…”
ZES-like gastric acid hypersecretion presents similarly to the classic syndrome. Lansoprazole titrated to gastric acid output is effective in healing mucosal disease and preventing relapse.
